Cumulonimbus Cloud

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb.

Hi Guys, today im going to write about Natural Phenomenon

So, recently we were shocked by Airplane crash accident that involved Air Asia's QZ8501 Airplane. What i heard from the news this accident was caused by a cloud that called Cumulonimbus Cloud.

Im interested to search and find out any information about this cloud. So here is some explanation about Cumulonimbus Cloud and why it's dangerious for flight.

Cumulonimbus Cloud

Cumulonimbus, from the Latin cumulus ("heap") and nimbus ("rainstorm", "storm cloud"), is a dense towering vertical cloud [1]associated with thunderstorms and atmospheric instability, forming from water vapor carried by powerful upward air currents. Cumulonimbus can form alone, in clusters, or along cold front squall lines. These clouds are capable of producing lightning and other dangerous severe weather, such as tornadoes. Cumulonimbus progress from overdeveloped cumulus congestus clouds and may further develop as part of a supercell. Cumulonimbus is abbreviated Cb and are designated in the D2 family.

Towering cumulonimbus clouds are typically accompanied by smaller cumulus clouds. The cumulonimbus base may extend several miles across and occupy low to middle altitudes- formed at altitude from approximately 500 to 13,000 ft (200 to 4,000 m). Peaks typically reach to as much as 20,000 ft (6,000 m), with extreme instances as high as 75,000 ft (23,000 m).[2] Well-developed cumulonimbus clouds are characterized by a flat, anvil-like top (anvil dome), caused by wind shear or inversion near the tropopause. The shelf of the anvil may precede the main cloud's vertical component for many miles, and be accompanied by lightning. Occasionally, rising air parcels surpass the equilibrium level (due to momentum) and form an overshooting top culminating at the maximum parcel level. When vertically developed, this largest of all clouds usually extends through all three cloud regions. Even the smallest cumulonimbus cloud dwarfs its neighbors in comparison.

Thunderstorms represent some of the worst dangers in aviation. The effects they have are most likely to be found in the form of turbulence, downburst, microburst, tornadoes, icing, lighting, hail, heavy rain, surface wind gusts, runway contamination, low status and bad visibility.

Turbulence

Severe turbulence is caused by mixing of up- and downward moving air and can be expected anywhere in and under the Cb, even at distances of 25 NM ahead of and 10000 feet above the shower depending of its intensity.

Downburst

A huge amount of cold air flows out of a Cb causing a strong downdraught with a cross section of 2 - 5 NM in center and horizontal wind shear and updraught around the center and with severe horizontal wind shear outside of the Cb. The total affected area may have a radius of more than 15 NM. The horizontal wind shear component may be as large as 6 kts per second over a period of 16 seconds, which exceeds the acceleration of any aircraft.

Microburst

This is like a downburst but on a much smaller scale and with a cross-section of 0.5 - 2 NM. The horizontal wind may average at 45 kts with a maximum of 90 kts. It is very dangerous as the phenomena is concentrated over a small area.

Tornadoes

These may develop under a shower visible by dust or moist but they can be invisible too when the air is dry under the convective condensation level. Typical horizontal dimension is several hundreds of meters and windspeeds of over 150 kts are not uncommon. Lifetime may last from several minutes to hours. Smaller types like the waterspout have a radius of 25 to 50 meters and a lifespan of about an hour.

Icing

Since the most severe icing occurs in an environment of supercooled water droplets. In a Cb this will be between levels where the temperature is around zero and minus 23° Celsius. Icing may also occur at higher level altitudes, near the top of the Cb where mixed water and ice particles may stick to the cold airframe.
Thunderstorm, HailThunderstorm, Hail

Hail

Hail may be present in temperatures well above zero Celsius, the occurrence at +20° Celsius is quite normal. As hail is formed by the Bergeron Findeisen and coalescence processes, requiring supercooled water droplets, it will typically be present in the lower and medium levels of a Cb, since these droplets are scarce above the -23° Celsius level.

Heavy rain

If rain is present in the lower parts of the Cb it may cause engine flame outs and reduced visibility from the cockpit.

Gusty winds

This may cause heavy turbulence, severe down draughts and may exceed crosswind limitation of the aircraft. Wind gusts can be present in a range of 25 NM ahead of and 15 NM around a Cb.

Runway contamination

The presence of rain, hail or snow may result in a poor braking action. As a Cb is relative short lived phenomenon braking action coefficients are hardly ever measured and actual braking action may be unexpectedly poor.

Lightning

Static Wicks
Aluminum aircraft form a Faraday cage and are relatively safe from a lightning strike. If it does happen then this will result in compass deviations, electronic failures and such. Composite aircraft, fly by wire systems, computerized navigation and the like may make an aircraft more vulnerable to a lightning strike. Lightning will occur near or in (70% of lightning occurs within the Cb).
An electrically charged aircraft (static electricity) can be detected by static VHF disturbances on the radio and or St Elmo's fire, at this point it is more prone to a lightning strike. Charging can also occur when flying in Cirrus clouds near Cb's.
To electrically discharge an aircraft static wicks are used. They are connected to the airframe and release the electrons back to the atmosphere, thus reducing radio interference.

Low stratus

Often seen near a shower in moist areas and affects the ceiling limits. Results in sudden visibility reduction in mountainous terrain making flight below MOCA (Minimum Obstacle Clearance Altitude) impossible without ground violations.

Poor visibility

This will occur in heavy precipitation fog or stratus over high ground.

My Favourite Food

So today im going to post about my favourite foods. Check it out.
Lets start with Fried Rice or we usually call it nasi goreng

what i like from nasi goreng is that it has a lot of variation, let's just say nasi goreng teri, nasi goreng kambing, nasi goreng seafood, nasi goreng kampung, nasi goreng telur, and many more!

Here's an example of recipe of Nasi Goreng and a step-by-step directions to make it:

DIRECTIONS

  1. Bring the rice and water to a boil in a saucepan over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender, and the liquid has been absorbed, 20 to 25 minutes. Spread onto a baking sheet, and refrigerate 2 hours until cold.
  2. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Spray with nonstick cooking spray. Pour eggs into hot skillet. Cook until the eggs begin to set, lifting up the edges of the set eggs to allow the uncooked egg to contact the hot pan, about 1 minute. Flip omelet in one piece and cook until fully set, about 30 seconds. Slice omelet into 1/2 inch strips.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large frying pan over high heat. Stir in the onion, leek, garlic, and chile peppers. Cook, stirring, until onion is soft, 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in the chicken, prawns, coriander, and cumin, mixing well. Cook and stir for approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Mix in the cold rice, sweet soy sauce, and omelet strips; cook until shrimp are bright pink and chicken is no longer pink in the center, 3 to 5 minutes.

and the second one is Martabak. Why? I think everyone loves Martabak, hehe.

My Activies During the Last Holiday Season

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb.

Today i will review my whole activites during the last holiday season.

I barely went anywhere beore the new year's eve, because i had this thing called Summer School or we usually say it Semester Pendek. SP is where we have to study again for a certain period of time. This SP thing is usually compulsory for those whose score is below average and have to fix it.

Skip until new year's eve, my friends and i planned to go around the city(we actually only went to dago and PVJ). My friends were going to have a sleepover in my house, because the next day we were planning to go to Tebing Keraton.

The next day we woke up early, beause we want to see the sunrise. So we went out at 5 AM. The traffic was very smooth which is pretty nice to see. In short when we arrived at Tebing Keraton entrance gate, we had to pay the entrance fee before we could get in. The first thing i saw was a large group of people taking pictures of themselves with tongsis, and several couples taking pictures too. I rushed to go to the tip of the cliff to get the best view for taking pictures. So here is some pictures of my friends and i at Tebing Keraton.

On the 2nd January of 2015 i came along with my father on a trip around the southern part of West Java. The trip started from Pangalengan, an then Cianjur and Garut, and my final destination was Palabuhan Ratu. The trip took around 3 days. The view on the way was breathtaking because we actually crossed the mountains. on the last day we were planning to go fishing on the sea, but the bad weather ruined it.

On the 7th January of 2015 i went to Bukit Moko by a bicycle with my friends. It was very exhausting, but it was completely worth the trip. Because the view was great. That place was filled with pine trees. And from there we could see Bandung cityscape.

So that's what i did on my last holiday season, i was pretty happy about it because i had a productive one. How about your's?

Matswapati

Matswapati was an event that was held by SMAN 3 Bandung on Saturday,  27th September 2014. The event took place at Lapangan Bali. based on what i searched on google, Matswapati was a name of a king in wayang. This was the first art and cultural event after seven years.
Rundown of Matswapati

Before the event started at 10 o'clock, im actually had to attend a parade, but i didn't come on time because i woke up at 8 o'clock that day. After i prepared myself, i went to Lapangan Bali with my friends to se what was going on there.

At Matswapati, i saw a lot of stands with various themes, such as Arjuna, Abimanyu, Hanoman, etc., the themes was taken from the characters from wayang. Each stand sold and offered different things, there was a stand who rent a Play Station, and there was a stand who challanged you to solve a puzzle, but i think the most unique stand was a stand which offered a place for cool off, i saw a fan and a portable air conditioner there.

At 1 O'clock i went home because i was sleepy, i was very tired because stayed up late on the last night. I woke up at 3 O'clock and did ashar prayer, after that i went to Lapangan Bali again. I saw that the field is getting crowded with people, most of them were waiting for Glenn Fredly i thought. after that i saw alot of performances, such as T'sT, KV3, Barsena, and Glenn Fredly as a closing performance.

Timun Mas (The Golden Cucumber)

Once upon a time, not far from a jungle, lived a husband and a wife. They were diligent farmers and always worked hard in the paddy fields. They had been married for many years and were childless. Every day they prayed for a child.
One night, while they were praying, a giant passed by their home. The giant heard them pray and said:
“Don’t worry. I can help you. But you must return the child to me on her 17th birthday.”
They were so happy that they did not think about the risk of losing their child later and agreed to every condition set by the giant. The giant gave them a few of cucumber seeds. The farmers took utmost care in planting and tenting the seeds.
Soon enough, the cucumber plants grew and a big golden cucumber grew in the plants. The farmers plucked the ripened cucumber and cut it open. They were astonished to see a beautiful child inside the cucumber. They adopted the child as their own daughter and named her Timun Mas (Golden Cucumber). Timun Mas grew into a beautiful girl under her parents’ loving care.
On her 17th birthday, Timun’s parents remembered their promise and became very sad. They knew they had to keep their promise to the giant but they also did not want to lose their beloved daughter. They called Timun Mas aside and said:
“My daughter, take this bag. It can save you from the giant,” said the father.
“What giant? What do you mean, Father? I don’t understand,” said Timun Mas. The farmers narrated the story of her birth to Timun Mas.
Right then, the giant entered their house.
“Run Timun Mas. Save your life!” said the mother.
The giant grew angry when he heard this. Timun Mas had started running. He ran after her. Timun Mas looked behind and saw that the giant was getting closer and closer.
She opened the bag and threw a handful of salt at him. It became a sea. The giant had to swim to cross the sea. When she saw that the giant was nearing her again, she opened the bag and threw some chilly in his path. The chillies grew and formed a jungle blocking his way. The sharp thorns on the trees hurt the giant.
He cut away the trees and continued chasing Timun Mas. Timun Mas took her third magic stuff. It was cucumber seeds. She threw them and they turned into a cucumber field. The giant’s legs were tangled in the cucumber creepers and he kept falling down.
Still the giant managed to escape and continued running after Timun Mas. Timun searched her bag again. She had one last magic stuff in the bag. It was a shrimp paste, terasi. She threw it at him and the terasi turned into a big swamp.
The giant tried to swim across the swamp. But he was very tired by now and drowned in the swamp and died. Seeing that the giant had met his end, Timun Mas was happy and went back home. Timun’s parents were happy to see their daughter return and the family was finally together again.

My Unforgettable Moment

My unforgettable moment is when I had my Farwell Outdoor with my friends at Tidung and Pari Island at Kepulauan Seribu. I went there on 10th of June until 13rd June.

Here is some information about Tidung Island from Wikipedia.

Tidung Island is one of the islands in the Thousand Islands. This island consists of two regions, named ‘Tidung Besar’ and ‘Tidung Kecil’, which is connected by a bridge. There is no one living in ‘Tidung Kecil’, so ‘Tidung Kecil’ still looks natural and be one of the favorite tourism spot. There are 4.250 people live in Tidung Island, majority of them are Moslem.

The width of Tidung Island is 200 meters and the length is approximately 5.000 meters. The beaches surrounded Tidung Island has a white beautiful sand. We can see  small fish swimming around the beach because the sea water is still clean. The beach surrounded Tidung Island has no big waves that enable us to swim. Tourists are also able to enjoy beautiful scenery of Tidung Island by biking.
Some social facilites and services have been settled in Tidung Island are: police office, village office, school, and Ocean Research Center by Marine Department. Besides, we can also find some stalls offering snacks, foods, drinks, and souvenirs. People lived in Tidung Island are known as friendly.

Beside snorkeling, diving, and other water sports and activities, one favorite spot is ‘Jembatan Cinta‘ (Love Bridge) which connects two regions of Tidung Island. In ‘Jembatan Cinta’, we can enjoy the beautiful and exotic view of sunrise and sunset, and we also can jump from the bridge to the sea, testing your bravery and nerves.

Fyi, I jumped from jembatan cinta atleast five times, I think It was an exciting experience for me. I did some watersport games too.

After that we went to Pari Island. Pari Island has a beautiful white sand beach called Virgin Beach or Pantai Perawan. You can rent some kayak, play volleyball, buy some coconut, or you can just enjoy the beautiful view of the beach.

It was a very exciting experience to went there with my friends. It made me realize that indonesia is such a wonderful country with a lot of beautiful place to visit.
